Over the past week I was able to spend a few minutes with the man who is known as “SLOWRIDEâ€. He recently returned home from his first trip to the Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway where he found himself riding in the top 10 most of his weekend, even grasping a 4th place finish on only his second night at the track This is the driver who over his 20 year career has found himself and his crew in victory lane an astounding 127 times and was crowned as a point champion 12 different times. If you don’t know who this is yet, it is the one, the only, David Scott.
David is from Garland, PA and is well known to the dirt racing fans in western and northwestern Pennsylvania. He has driven a variety of cars and is currently driving the Dan Moore owned super late model. Now for what you really want: the answers to some of the questions that you might have or never thought to ask. So here it is:
1. Where did the nickname “Slowride” come from?
- Back in my cadet day’s one of my competitors was busting on me, telling me how he was going to beat me that year, later, while I was thinking about it the song Slowride came on the radio and I thought it would be cool to have that on my car. So the first night out he was leading, I passed him and won that night. From then on it stuck and became an easy to remember nickname.
2. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment in racing?
-Tough question, not really my greatest accomplishment, but winning the sprint and late model feature in the same night at Lernerville Speedway was probably the most satisfied I’ve ever been after the races were over because this was a goal we had set as a team to accomplish.
3. What do you consider your favorite track?
-Little Valley Speedway in New York.
4. What is your goal to achieve before you stop racing?
-To win multiple features with each individual touring series in the same year.
5. What type of track do you prefer (tacky, slick, big, short, flat, banked)?
- I prefer running the top of the 3/8 bullrings because for me they are more fun to drive.
6. What do you like to do in the off season?
- We work in the garage 360 days a year, but when deer season comes around, I hunt just as hard as I race.
7. What is something you are looking forward to in 2008?
- Winning!!!! Our new team is the strongest it’s ever been with new owner Dan Moore, 2 new rockets and the new Craiger Race Engine we should be a threat to win any night out.
8. What track do you wish to go to and never been too?
- Knoxville Speedway in Knoxville , Iowa .
9. Is there a reason why you race number 3?
- It was my father’s number and he is my true hero. He raced all over including Daytona and Talladega in the ARCA series where he accomplished more than most in his day.
10. Have you ever raced any other division than late model?
- I’ve raced go-karts, cadets, limited late models, and sprints. I had many feature wins and track championships, 3 limited late model 100 lap feature wins, I was the sprint car rookie and track champion at Lernerville Speedway along with picking up 5 sprint feature wins.
This concludes my interview with “Slowride†David Scott; I hope David and crew have great success in the 2008 season. Until next time keep on racing – Dustin Leverknight.
