Robbie Blair – Terrorizing the IRS in 2008 - By: Geoff Kinder

Rob Blair has a win and a pair of 2nd place finishes so far at the first three IRS races and has been a contender in all three. He battled traveling companion Dave Hess Jr. at Hilltop and won the first event of the year. Shaver barely beat Blair at Elkins and if lap traffic wasn’t in the way he’d of probably beat Carrier at 201. Not only that but he’s also first in points in the newly formed, Pa based, UFO series. This came after a side by side battle with Josh Richards that had everyone on their feet at Challenger Raceway during the inaugural event for the series. The team has all of the IRS races on its schedule and all but one of the UFO events due to a scheduling conflict with an IRS race. If one of the two gets rained out Blair has a shot at winning two titles in one year.

Rob Blair seems to be making all the right choices in a season where the price of fuel is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. For Blair the bottom line has been winning races and making money. Rob brings his A-game to every race. He fared well placing 5th in IRS points in 2007 only attending 11 of the 15 races. He went out on a good note scoring a win at McKean County Raceway worth 12k and a 2nd place worth 10k at Challenger Raceway’s Fall Fest. It seems that in racing most of the good drivers are very talented but there is a certain degree of luck in the equation as well. After finishing 2nd to Billie Drake at Fall Fest, Blair won a brand-new Rocket. Earlier in the day he bought the winning chance and Drake picked his ticket after the feature during the victory lane celebration, talk about luck!

Blair is also seen as a mentor, not only to his son Max, who competes in a crate late model, but to two young drivers on the rise. If one was to walk through the pits at an IRS show there’s a good chance you’d find the Won11 hauler nestled between the rigs of Dave Hess Jr., and IRS rookie contender Mike Knight. “Rob has been a really great help to our team. We got to know him when he was running Raceway 7 on Friday nights. Since then, and especially now that were traveling he’s a real asset to our team”, remarked Hess. He is also one of those guys that can get in any division and leave a mark. He piloted one of Max’s steel blocks last year and won with it, he also finished 2nd in a high paying stock division feature the same night at Central PA Speedway.

The Titusville Terror is one of dirt late model’s best kept secret with an impressive resume to boot. Blair took first in MACS points in 2004 and second in 2005. He’s got 2 Renegade DirtCar features, 11 MACS, 3 ULMS, 3 IRS features, and 1 UFO win; 5 track championships and over 90 total big wins. He’s not only on the right track, but has been on the right track for years. One thing is certain – if Blair stays consistent and stays on the IRS tour he’ll be hard to beat!
