Brownstown Speedway Lee Fleetwood Memorial Updates

Posted Jody Shannon on June 28th, 2008 | Filed under Commentary, Jody Shannon, The DRC

-Ratliff drove a great race passing Lee about midway through the event. Lee battled back and challenged Justin several times to no avail. Barnett and Lee made contact with Lee getting the worse end of it, spinning Victor. Lee fired on the gas and never lifted, and when the yellow flag waved he got his spot back. Greg Johnson used the highside to move to the second postion at one point, but drove over the bank on the last lap, falling back to fourth. Videos Highlights, Winner interviews and more will be available in the morning. Daryl Herbert won the Modified feature over Shelby Miles. Special thanks to Chris Nunn, Alan Tilley, Mike Despain, and all the staff from the Battle of the Bluegrass for their help with line ups and results. Hope we can do this again soon.

- Zach Carney and Larry Gray win the consis. A lap one tangle in Consi one took several cars out, with Mike Jewell getting the worst end of the deal.

- To answer a question in the comment section, they rework and water the track here every week to my understanding.

-9:21 cars have entered the track and are rolling it in. Consi’s are up next.

- We have added 27 photos from tonight’s heat races to the gallery. To view them click the gallery link at the top of the page.

- Jason Setser has been taken to a local hospital after suffering a broken wrist.

- 9:00pm Tim Keithley and crew have water trucks and disc on the track and are redoing the surface prior to the Consi events.

- Due to a incident in the pits, Tim Prince’s evening is finished.

- Mods are on the track now. We will be adding some photos from the wild heat events shortly.

- Heat Race Results

Heat 1:
1. Justin Ratliff
2. Tyrel Todd
3. Cody Mahoney
4. Christian Rayburn
5. Mike Jewell
6. Larry Gray
7. Brad Erwin
8. Arnie Fields

*Good battle between Todd and Ratliff. Rayburn looked good on the bottom and things never really clicked for Jewell. “The Scottsburg Express” tried to find a rail up high, but never made any ground.

Heat 2:
1. Steve Barnett
2. Rohn Moon
3. Royce McGowan
4. Chad Stapleton
5. Jacob Webber
6. James Huff
7. Jason Smith
8. Tyler Allen

* Barnett used his traditonal Brownstown three wheeling line to win this race. Moon tried him many times bringing the crowd to their feet, but could never get under the many time Brownstown Speedway feature winner.

Heat 3:
1. Greg Johnson
2. Victor Lee
3. Eric Wells
4. David Webb
5. Joe Janowski
6. Zach Carney
7. Scott Jones
8. Jason Setser

*This was a old school battle royal with lots of beating and banging the entire event. Just about every car on the track had some damage at the end. Jason Setser took a hard hit in turn four and walked to the ambulace, complaining of pain in his hand/wrist. Johnson just nipped a hard charging Lee at the line.

Heat 4:
1. Tim Tungate
2. Shannon Reed
3. Jim Moon
4. Joe Godsey
5. Lee Devasier
6. Dereck Fisher
7. Chris Combs
8. Tim Prince

*Fisher lead most of this one only to suffer heart break, dropping a drive shaft on his way to the white flag. Chris Combs also chucked a drive shaft. Lots of contact in the back as Jim Moon guided his Crate Motor Rocket Chassis to a transfer spot. After the event security was called to the pits as Tim Prince was in Moon’s pit and not happy.

- Heat One is on the track now.

-Cody Mahoney is fast time, he draws a one and will start on the pole of heat one. They are already calling cars to the shute, I will update here in a second. We have added several photos from tonights action on the gallery.
