PPMS Cancelled For May 11; Ohio/West Virginia Night Up Next

The racing action at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for Saturday, May 11th has been cancelled.

“The strong storms Friday afternoon and evening along with the continued drizzle throughout Saturday morning made the speedway facilities and the track very wet and muddy,” commentated speedway owner Matt Miley.

PHILLIPS THIRD DIFFERENT LM WINNER AT AMP

“Hot Rod” Rodney Phillips of Punxsutawney became the third different Randy Sterling Trucking Late Model feature winner of the season at America’s Motorsports Park in Clearfield, Saturday night as Jeff and America Taylor rolled the dice and completed at full program, when numerous other area speedway’s threw in the towel due to the weather.
Other new winners included: Colton Gearhart of DuBois in the Harter and Sons Garage Street Stocks and Jason Beichner of Shippenville in the Quigley’s Pub Pure Stocks.

HEAVY RAIN FORCES CANCELLATION OF RACING AT BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY

Heavy rains moved into the area about 30 minutes before the scheduled starting time, forcing owners Jake and Jasmine Smulley to cancel the racing events planned at Big Diamond Speedway on Friday, May 10th.

A nice field of 73 cars had signed into the pit area for the four division show of 358 Modifieds, Roadrunners, Street Stocks, and Legend cars.  Due to this being the 2nd consecutive rainout for the Street Stocks, and with only eight shows planned for the 2013 season, they have been added to the racing card next Friday evening, May 17th.  Pit wristbands for the Street Stock division from last evening must be used at the May 17th show.

Gates, Hennigar, Peterson, Luellen, Murty and Brown Win on Cliff Chamber Memorial Night

Mother Nature hasn’t cooperated lately but on Friday Night the Speedway was able to honor a former Marshalltown Speedway Pioneer in  Cliff Chambers. The night produced some great racing all night long.

Josh Zieman grabbed the lead and never let go as he took his 2nd straight Cliff Chambers Memorial in the Nostgalia Stock Car Club of Iowa 10 lap feature. Jamie Huff grabbed 2nd away from Jim Anderson. Pudge Grabill and Tyler Ahlman rounded out the top 5.

Skylar Marlar Snags $2,500 American Cancer Society Night Victory at Lake Cumberland Speedway

Lake Cumberland Speedway returned to action on Saturday evening after three straight rainouts with a benefit night for the American Cancer Society and Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN would pick up the $2,500 payday in the Super Late Model division main event.  Other feature winners for the evening included Jimmy Payne of Glasgow, KY in Modifieds, Tim McMullin of Bronston, KY in Super Dirt Stocks/Road Hogs, and Charles Burton of Somerset, KY in Front Wheel Drives.

The Super Late Model feature event would see Skylar Marlar start in the fourth position, but when all was said and done, he would be standing in victory lane and would have earned $2,500 for his efforts in the PPM Racing Products sponsored #257 PPM Racing Chassis machine.  Third place starting Justin Rattliff would take runner-up honors, while polesitter Victor Lee, outside polesitter Brad Neat, and Mike Weeks would complete the top five.  The remainder of the top ten would be David Marlar, Jay Mobley, Kenny Cobble, Johnny Wheeler, and Jeff Watson.  Lee and Neat would take heat race wins.

Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series at Cedar Ridge Speedway on May 18 

The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series is set to return to competition as its quest for a 2013 series champion continues on Saturday May 18 at Cedar Ridge Speedway in Morgantown, KY with an event that will pay $1,500 to the winner.  The event was originally scheduled for April 27, but fell victim to inclement weather.    

The Saturday May 18 event for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will take place at Cedar Ridge Speedway in Morgantown, KY.  The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will present a full program of practice, A-B group time trials, qualifying heats, B-Mains, and the $1,500 to win/$200 to start A-Main event.  Also on the racing card at Cedar Ridge Speedway on Saturday May 18 will be Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Cruisers, Rusty Bolts, and UMP Mini Stocks

Tonight’s WoO LMS show set for I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., has been postponed one day to Saturday night (May 11) while Saturday’s originally scheduled program at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss., has been canceled, track and series officials announced on Friday morning.
