A cool and crisp evening awaited the Tyler County Speedways faithful for the 39th Annual Season Opener.  A pit full of racers and a nice crowd of brave souls weathered the frigidly cool temps as the green flag would officially wave on the 2013 season.

An awesome opening ceremony would set the tone for a highly competitive evening of action as the Tyler County Speedway paid a special tribute to Veterans and last seasons track champions before local singer Nancy Kester would perform a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

The Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds headlined a 5-division night with the Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints that proved to be the best action of the season.

Our very own Hobby Stocks opened the night and Don Woosley jumped to the lead. Woosley had a career night early on but did lose the lead to William Edwards on lap 3. Richard Calmes, Jr., Brian Shea, and Alvin Adkison combined to bring out 5 cautions with solo spins on the night. On lap 6 it was “The Mayo Missile” Devin Walker stealing the lead from Edwards and, after a few solo spins- including a lap 9 spin by Edwards- from the previous 3, Walker held off his father, Heath, for the win. The Walker family- the heat race winners- was followed by Brandon Elwood in the Flintstones Mobile, William Edwards, and Richard Calmes, Jr.

The American Modified Series kicked off its 2013 racing season on Saturday evening with the tour’s first-ever visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN and 2011 series champion Bryan Barber of Greensburg, KY collected the $3,000 first place money at the 4/10 mile high-banked clay oval aboard his B&B Motorsports/All Star Performance/Frankland Racing Equipment sponsored #10 Bandit Race Car powered by a Jay Dickens Race Engine.

Bell Wins in 2nd start at Lawrenceburg!

Norman, Oklahoma’s Christopher Bell hadn’t seen Lawrenceburg Speedway till 3 weeks ago when he showed up for practice at the 3/8 mile dirt track .  He put down some extremely fast laps in practice.  Then loaded up the Keith Kunz #67 and headed to the Brownstown Speedway for his first sprint car start.  He went out and won the race.  Last week, Bell struggled to finish 19th at Lawrenceburg for the USAC show.  For the first race of the season for The Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Spint Cars, Bell started on the outside of the front row and led every lap.  The rest of the top 5 included challengers who were racing hard trying to find a way around Bell including Robert Ballou, Hunter Schuerenberg, Brady Bacon, and Justin Grant who started 14th and finished 5th.  It was Bell’s 2nd feature win in a sprint car in 3 starts.   Heat race winners were Bell, Landon Simon, Robert Ballou, Brady Bacon, and Logan Jarrett.  Gary Taylor and Chad Boespflug won the 2 B-mains.  The Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to the speedway next Saturday nightApril 20th

Owens Survives High Banks Havoc at LoneStar Speedway

Two-time and reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion Jimmy Owens survived to win the 50-lap High Banks Havoc on Saturday Night at LoneStar Speedway. Owens earned $10,000 for his second LOLMDS win of the season and the 38th of his career.

Owens took the lead from Scott Bloomquist on lap 33 and then held off Bloomquist for the win. Steve Francis finished third followed by Don O’Neal and Jared Landers.

“It is really a weight off of our shoulders to win this race after we had a rough time in Florida. It really was a pretty good race having several different leaders, I saw Scott running a line to avoid the holes and I followed him for a longtime, and finally we were able to pass him,” said Owens.

STRUNK POCKETS HUGE PAYDAY WITH MONEY IN THE MOUNTAINS VICTORY, UMBENHAUER, BERZOWSKI ALSO VICTORIOUS

In front of a huge crowd on a chilly April evening, Jeff Strunk continued the hot start to his season, besting a talent laden 36 car field to win the first ever 40 lap Money in the Mountains event a Big Diamond Speedway. Strunk earned $7,500 for his efforts.

Former track regular Neal Williams jumped into the lead from his pole starting position and led the first 20 laps of the event. Invader Stewart Friesen took over the lead from Williams at the halfway mark after starting fourth on the grid.

Mills Grabs Frostbuster Win at Marshalltown

After being off since September the Marshalltown Speedway returned with the Annual Frostbuster with a little over one hundred-ninety cars signed in to do battle from 10 different states and 1 Canadian province. 

All night we would see some great three and four wide racing on a very wide and smooth racing surface. During the features however they were race five wide at times.

DROWN, WISECARVER, GARDNER, PRIEBE & BUBECK CLAIM OPENING NIGHT WINS AT HILLTOP SPEEDWAY

Hilltop Speedway swung open the gates for a full house on the first night of the season on a cool night but the action was mid season form. Charlie Duncan led the Holmes Tire Late Models to the green flag and set the pace for the opening three circuits before Dzugan Fire & Rescue Fast Qualifier Doug Drown of Wooster powered past to take the point. Duncan would hang tough for the next five laps but Drown would start to pull away as George Lee started to pester Duncan for second. Lee could never get past Duncan and in the closing laps, Steve Prince challenged Lee for third but came up short to take fourth as heat winner Wayne Maffett Jr. ran fifth. For Drown, driving the Weekley Electric #63, it was his 20th all time win at Hilltop.

Erb is Superb in Winning Indiana Icebreaker at Brownstown Speedway

Dennis Erb, Jr. came from the eighth starting spot to win the 16th Annual Indiana Icebreaker sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Saturday Night at Brownstown Speedway. Erb, took the lead on lap six from Josh McGuire and went unchallenged the rest of the way for the $10,000 victory.

 Erb’s fifth career LOLMDS win tonight was also his first series win outside of East Bay Raceway Park in Florida. Don O’Neal finished second, followed by Greg Johnson, Jared Landers, and Bobby Pierce.
